When to call us
- A tree or large branch has fallen onto a house, outbuilding, vehicle, fence, road or path
- A tree is leaning, split, uprooted or looks about to fall
- Storm damage has left broken or hanging branches overhead
- A dead or failed limb is blocking access or putting people at risk
What to do while you wait
- Keep people and pets well away from the tree and anything it might fall on
- Stay well back from any tree touching or near power lines — treat them as live — and call 105 (free) to report it to your electricity network operator
- If a tree has fallen across a public road, report it to the police on 101, or 999 if there's immediate danger
- Don't try to cut or move large fallen or hanging trees yourself: trunks and branches under tension can spring back unpredictably
- Take photos from a safe distance — useful if you need to contact your insurer
What we do when we arrive
Our first job is to make the situation safe: assess the tree, remove the immediate hazard and protect people and property. Where more work is needed — completing a removal, clearing timber and brash, or grinding the stump — we can arrange it afterwards. We work to BS3998 standards, with a fully insured, qualified crew, and clear up so the site is left clean and tidy.
Protected trees
Even in an emergency, trees may be protected by a Tree Preservation Order or conservation area. Work that is urgently necessary to remove an immediate risk is generally exempt from the usual consent rules, but the council should be told in writing as soon as practicable. We'll advise on what's needed — see our TPO & planning advice page.
