The best planting season for most bare-root trees runs from late autumn to early spring.

Choosing the right tree for the right place

A tree that suits its position will thrive with little intervention; the wrong tree in the wrong place becomes a problem in twenty years. We look at soil, drainage, available space (above and below ground), exposure and what you want from the tree — blossom, shade, wildlife value, screening or autumn colour — and recommend species that fit.

FAQ

Tree Planting & Aftercare: common questions

When is the best time to plant a tree?

For most bare-root trees and hedging, late autumn to early spring while they're dormant. Container-grown trees can be planted more flexibly, but need more watering if planted in summer.

Do you supply the trees?

Yes — we can supply trees and hedging whips as well as plant them, and advise on what will suit your site best.

How do I look after a newly planted tree?

Keep the area around the base free of weeds and grass, check stakes and ties, and water during dry spells, especially in the first two summers. We'll give you simple aftercare advice when we plant.
